Three women arrived in the Palmira neighborhood, located in Tatumbla, Francisco Morazán, to the house of a 21-year-old young man identified as Edwin Fabricio Figueroa Aceituno to shoot him.
According to police reports, the women arrived at the scene under the pretext of looking for a room to stay in. Upon entering the victim’s house, they attacked him in the yard with a burst of at least 25 shots, killing him instantly.
Figueroa Aceituno had recently been released from prison and, according to preliminary reports, had already been the victim of attacks in the past.
So far, authorities have not identified the whereabouts of the women, nor the motives behind the crime, which keeps the local community in uncertainty.
This case adds to the alarming wave of violence sweeping Honduras. The Central American country faces one of the highest homicide rates in the world, according to recent data. The violence, largely attributed to the presence of gangs and organized crime, has severely affected both urban and rural areas of the country.
