Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool is currently uncertain as the defender is into the final 12 months of his existing contract and yet to agree an extension. La Liga giants Real Madrid have reportedly made the 26-year-old the club’s top transfer priority ahead of a potential move that would see the defender link up with England team-mate Jude Bellingham at the Santiago Bernabeu. There has even been speculation that Liverpool have already given up hope of trying to convince Alexander-Arnold to stay and are considering a sale in the January transfer window to avoid losing the academy graduate on a free transfer next summer.

  Madrid are looking for a replacement for veteran full-back Dani Carvajal, who has recently been sidelined for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury. It’s thought that Alexander-Arnold’s close relationship with Bellingham may help Madrid land the Liverpool star and convince him to make the move to Spain. Bellingham enjoyed a stellar debut campaign with Real Madrid, winning La Liga and the Champions League, and former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann thinks that Alexander-Arnold would be a good fit for Los Blancos.

Jude Bellingham is potentially drawing him to the club, and the fact they got Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer shows they can do a similar move with Alexander-Arnold next summer.   Alexander-Arnold has yet to make a firm decision on his future but has revealed that his main career motivation is not to win more trophies but to “maximise his potential.” It remains to be seen if Alexander-Arnold feels he can do that at Anfield or if he will look for a new challenge with Real Madrid, who will be hoping to add another big name on a free transfer after bringing in Kylian Mbappe from PSG last summer.
