Tuesday, November 5, 2024 will be tense with a historic battle for the White House in the United States. Will Donald Trump succeed in becoming president again after his last defeat or has Kamala Harris managed to convince the skeptics after Joe Biden’s confusing performance? We will find out next week!
In the run-up to the election, both sides are trying to convince their target audience to go to the polls. Kamala Harris, for example, could become the first female president of the United States, and for that she is counting on the votes of female voters. No less than 53% of them say they will vote for Harris, compared to 36% for Trump. And many young women apparently prefer Harris’ more progressive orientation to Trump’s more conservative positions. The younger the women, the more support Harris enjoys. In the 18-29 age group, the Democrat is preferred by no less than 69%. In addition, the Democratic candidate is also doing particularly well within the African-American community. Among African-American women over 50, 86% say they would choose Harris. Among all African-American voters, 70% say they will vote for her. Harris, by the way, leads all voter groups of color. Among Asian Americans, she leads Trump by 28 percent, and among Hispanics, she leads Trump by 12 percent. Harris is also most popular among college students ages 18 to 25. Thirty-eight percent of them will vote for the Democratic nominee.
And what about Trump?
Donald Trump, for his part, is counting on a largely male, rural, and less-educated audience to help him get back into the White House. Men under 30 really need to make a difference for the Republican. Trump is significantly more popular among young men aged 18 to 29: 52% to Harris’s 36%. But it’s not just young whites. Among young African-American voters, more than a quarter will vote for Trump, and even more among Latino voters. In part because they trust him on the economy. Trump is winning in almost every segment of the white electorate, but he will also need to attract some female votes. And he is doing so primarily among white women without a college degree: 70% of them prefer him to Harris. The lower the education level, the higher the Trump factor, and this has been the case in previous elections as well.
This promises to be a real neck and neck race!
