Former US President (2017-2021) and Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, traveled to Texas this Friday to attack his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris , in an attempt to counterprogram the vice president, who will have an electoral rally in that state tonight with Beyoncé.
Harris “has picked the wrong spot ,” Trump said at an election event in Austin, the capital of Texas, a predominantly Republican state where the tycoon is assured of victory.
The Republican mocked his opponent by saying that Harris decided to campaign in Texas because “she is losing by a lot” in the swing states, where the elections are decided.
Trump also criticized Harris for “rubbing shoulders with ‘woke’ personalities” during her rally in Houston, referring to Beyoncé.
Trump lashes out at immigration policy
The former president took advantage of his presence in the border state to attack the immigration policy of the current Democratic administration and baselessly accused the vice president of “importing an army of immigrant gang members.”
“We’re like a garbage can where the rest of the world throws what it doesn’t want. (Other countries) are emptying their mental institutions, their jails and their prisons,” Trump said , reiterating the xenophobic rhetoric he has used throughout the campaign.
The vice president revealed that her speech tonight in Houston will focus on defending productive rights because the Supreme Court ruling that eliminated the federal right to abortion in 2022 has generated “real suffering and damage” to the country.
That’s why, she explained, she will talk about that harm , about those who have been directly affected by abortion restrictions, and about “the power that the American people have to decide the direction of our country.”
Harris again characterized Trump as a threat to democracy for his involvement in the 2021 assault on the Capitol and said the country needs a president who “respects the will of the people and free and fair elections.” EFE
