In response to Donald Trump, Google has been emphatic that it does not manipulate search results to favor any candidate.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday accused Google of only showing ” bad news ” about him and vowed to sue the tech giant if he returns to the White House.

Trump did not provide evidence for his claim on his Truth Social platform , which he said the popular search engine only shows positive articles about his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

“This is ILLEGAL ACTIVITY and I hope the Department of Justice will prosecute them criminally for this blatant interference in the election,” he wrote.

“Otherwise, and subject to the laws of our country, I will request that they be prosecuted at the highest levels when I win the election .”

Donald Trump’s reaction

Trump’s post came after a conservative group said it found favoritism for Harris when users typed “Donald Trump 2024 presidential race” into the search box.

In response to an AFP query, Google said that “both campaign websites consistently appear at the top of search results for relevant and common queries.”

Google has been emphatic that it does not manipulate search results to favor any candidate.

The company never reveals how its search engine software works, but it is known that there are factors that influence the results, such as the topic’s relevance and popularity.

Trump is at the center of numerous criminal and civil cases facing allegations including sexual assault, hush money to a porn star, interference in the 2020 election and attempting to thwart the peaceful transition of power after President Joe Biden defeated him.
