Russia has reclaimed half of the Kursk region, a Russian territory where Ukrainian troops had made a breakthrough several months ago.

A Russian commander from Chechnya revealed that around 50,000 Ukrainian soldiers were forced to retreat to avoid being killed in Russia.

“Approximately half of the territory that was occupied by the enemy has already been liberated,” said Major General Apty Alaudinov.

Over the weekend, several Russian and Ukrainian war bloggers reported that Russian forces had broken through Ukraine’s defensive lines.

Despite this, Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently claimed that his troops are holding strong in the Kursk region.

Some experts have suggested that seasonal rains have turned the ground into mud, giving Russia a significant advantage as its forces rely more heavily on tracked vehicles compared to their opponents.

Kyiv had launched a cross-border offensive last August, catching Moscow by surprise, forcing Russia to redeploy troops stationed in Ukraine back to the Kursk region to push back the Ukrainian assault.
