Alexander Lukashenko has hinted that Belarus will help Ukraine rebuild their country once the conflict with Russia is over.
The Belarusian leader, who is close to Vladimir Putin, argued that Ukraine will not be able to count on the United States because the country will be too busy with its domestic problems.
“He [President Zelensky – ed.] is not going to Minsk or Moscow to reach an agreement and finally stop the war. He thinks that the Americans will rebuild Ukraine after the war… Nobody will rebuild it,” he said, according to the BelTa news agency.
“Therefore, Ukrainian leaders must take a direct approach and recognize that the country must first be rebuilt. With the help of their relatives, including Belarusians,” he added.
Alexander Lukashenko has consistently refused to join Russia in its fight in Ukraine despite repeated requests from Vladimir Putin.
Last year, members of the Wagner paramilitary group went into hiding in Belarus after ending their short-lived mutiny.
