An unusual event surprised the inhabitants of Newport , United States , when the authorities found Damian Wojnilowicz , 36 years old and originally from Poland, guilty of two charges of trespassing.
The curious thing about the case is that, instead of committing robberies, Wojnilowicz devoted himself to carrying out domestic tasks in the homes he entered without permission.
According to the police report, the man, seeing the disarray in the homes, began cleaning floors, hanging clothes, taking out the trash and even feeding the birds in the garden.
In one house, he left a peculiar note that read: “Don’t worry, be happy, eat and scratch yourself,” which caused more fear than relief among the owners, who were baffled to find their home rearranged.
The first incident left one of the victims, a resident of Monmouthshire, with a deep emotional impact. The woman decided to move temporarily to feel safe after the raid.
In the second incident, Wojnilowicz was caught on CCTV drinking wine, washing his clothes and taking a shower, until he was caught by the house owner’s son-in-law and subsequently arrested by police.
I was homeless
During the trial, Wojnilowicz ‘s lawyer mentioned that his client was homeless and expressed regret for the incident. However, the court found that he represents a “significant risk to the public” and he was sentenced to 22 months in prison.
