A World War II bomb exploded near Miyazaki Airport last week. As a precaution, all flights were temporarily canceled. No one was injured in the blast.
Miyazaki is the capital of Miyazaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan.
The American bomb from World War II was buried in a Japanese airport and suddenly exploded on the runway. The explosion caused a large crater on a taxiway and led to the cancellation of more than 80 flights.
Officials with the Ministry of Land and Transport said no aircraft were nearby when the bomb exploded at Miyazaki airport in southwestern Japan on Wednesday.
An investigation is underway to determine how the World War II bomb was able to suddenly explode and whether other explosive devices were buried on the runway.
