Crime tourism has been taking over the country for several years now. Chilean gangs arrive on American territory with the sole aim of robbing the rich.
The robbers obtain a three-month visa and enter the country legally. They then have only one purpose in mind: to rob luxurious American properties.
The operation is brief, no more than 10 minutes in total. Once night falls, a small group of thieves enters a wealthy property and quickly heads to the room with the safe and steals it.
For the police, it’s difficult to identify the members of the gangs who have arrived legally into the country. Having concluded an agreement with the United States, Chile allows its nationals to benefit from a 90-day visa for tourism, reports France Info.
Strengthening upstream controls but also training special units to fight against these commandos: solutions are beginning to emerge to eradicate the problem of Chilean robbers.
