War in Ukraine: NATO’s fatal mistake

Jens Stoltenberg has admitted that NATO should have supplied more weapons and military equipment to Ukraine in the months leading up to the Russian invasion.

The former secretary general of the military organization said in an interview with the Financial Times that the war between the two neighboring nations could have been avoided if NATO had provided the Ukrainian army with substantial weaponry.

“I take my share of responsibility,” he told the British media outlet. “I’m proud of what we’ve done, but it would have been very beneficial to have started earlier,” he added.

The Norwegian politician revealed that he regretted not having anticipated a Russian offensive in February 2022 more and that he should have sent weapons to the Ukrainian army several months earlier.

“If there is one thing that I regret in some way and that I see much more clearly today, it is that we should have provided Ukraine with much greater military support and much earlier,” he said.

“I think we all have to admit that we should have given them [the Ukrainian side] more weapons before the invasion. And we should have given them more advanced weapons, more quickly, after the invasion. I take my share of responsibility,” he explained.
