Waste was left quickly after accident on Suyapa Boulevard in Tegucigalpa
The accident left 17 people injured with serious wounds and fractures who were transferred to the School Hospital.

A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday morning after an executive bus, better known as a ‘rapidito’ on the Carrizal-Miraflores route, crashed into a wall of the Escuela Hospital while fighting for a line on Suyapa Boulevard in the capital of Honduras.

The speeding public transport vehicle crashed near the main entrance of the health centre, leaving at least 17 people injured. -
Inside the unit were found pieces of the windshield and blood from the injured people. -
The seats of the ‘rapidito’ came loose from their places due to the strong impact. -
In the strong impact, due to excessive speed, the front of the unit was crushed. -
Even a shoe was left lying on the steps of the bus that was transporting people to their workplaces. -
The alleged recklessness of the driver of unit number 0417 will be analyzed on cameras of the 911 system. -
If it is verified that the driver was at fault for the accident, he will be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for the crime of reckless driving, according to Commissioner Hernández of the National Directorate of Roads and Transportation (DNVT). -
Despite the serious collision, no deaths were reported for the people in front of the bus. -
The entire right side of a van that was traveling in the area was damaged in the accident. -
“Suddenly we heard a bang,” said a person who was there, stating that the bus driver was unable to control the vehicle due to excessive speed. -
Paramedic teams quickly arrived to assess the victims and provide necessary medical care. -
The people who were injured and suffered serious fractures were transferred to the School Hospital. -
Other injured people were taken to the Honduran Social Security Institute in Bo. La Granja.

Deaths from road accidents
In 2024, there will be around 2,100 deaths, which is higher than in the previous year.
According to the Violence Observatory of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), 2023 closed with 2,007 deaths, which represents the highest mortality rate in two decades.
One of the most worrying aspects is that more than 70% of these fatal accidents are caused by the human factor , whether due to speeding, drunk driving, mobile phone use or lack of attention on the road.
