WHAT HAPPENED?

The 33-year-old striker, who has played at several clubs across England including Watford in the Premier League, has joined Plymouth on a short-term deal that is valid until January. Gray joined the Championship side as a free agent after leaving Saudi Pro League club Al-Riyadh at the end of the 2023-24 season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Pilgrims have had a difficult start to the 2024-25 season having scored just eight goals in as many Championship matches thus far. They have registered just two wins and currently find themselves 18th on the league table. Gray, who has scored nearly 200 goals across the top two divisions in England, will be a valuable addition to Rooney’s squad.

    • WHAT WAYNE ROONEY SAID

After roping in the veteran striker, manager Rooney told the club’s official website, “Once we knew the severity of Muhamed’s injury, we moved quickly to bring in a striker to replace him. Andre is a striker of real quality and has played and scored goals at the highest level. He will provide competition in forward areas as we head into a busy period of the season, and I am really happy to have him here.”
