Images published by the Kremlin bring about doubt. Arms experts recognize an old cannon from 1955. In principle, this weapon should no longer be in Russia.
In a propaganda move by the Russian army, an artillery cannon attracted attention. In the images, we can see the D-74 howitzer in action. Russia is not supposed to have this weapon. In addition, it dates from 1955. Explanations! This cannon was developed in the USSR in order to be sold to its allies. The Soviet Union, for its part, had the M-46, which was more powerful. So why is the D-74, developed in the 40s, found in the Donetsk region against the Ukrainians?
Foreign origin
According to Business Insider, the presence of the D-74 is tangible proof imported weapons from a Russian ally. By the mid-1950s, the entire stock had been sold off to China and Vietnam. However, attention is turning towards North Korea. The country in question does indeed have a stock of this cannon, probably purchased from the Chinese, as well as its adapted shells. The fact that the Russians are using this old weapon could also be the consequence of a stock of weapons in arrears. However, by showing this cannon publicly, the Kremlin probably wants to show its citizens that the country can benefit from strong military capabilities thanks to its partners.
