Regardless of the outcome of the U.S. election on November 5, deportations of migrants will continue, warned human rights expert Bessy Ríos on Channel 5’s Frente a Frente program .
“We as Central Americans have to be clear that the Americans have no friends, only allies, and they are interested in the security of their borders. Whether Democrats or Republicans govern, they always throw people out,” said the defender from El Salvador.
Ríos noted that both Democrats and Republicans have implemented deportation policies during their administrations, and that the difference is the way they do it.
” Kamala Harris , as vice president, used Title 42 left by (Donald) Trump . In the case of Central America, Democrats deport more than Republicans; the difference is the nuance, some do it more cruelly than others,” explained Ríos, recalling that the current Republican candidate put children in cages built during Barack Obama’s term.
The defender stressed that US interests are focused on security and migration control, not human rights.
“And the Democrats, once in power, have only been interested in stopping migration and drug trafficking,” he said.
At the moment, polls show a close race between the two candidates 24 hours before the US presidential election, but surprises from either Trump or Harris cannot be ruled out.
