The name of Marilyn Cote , a lawyer accused of allegedly offering psychiatric services without proper certification, caused a stir on social media and in the medical field in Mexico.
Health authorities in Puebla closed his office after accusations mounted that he lacked credentials to practice psychiatry.
Who is Marilyn Cote?
Marilyn, who promoted her practice as “Neuropsychology Clinic Marilyn Cote” , presented herself on social media and on her website as a psychiatrist with multiple awards and international studies , including mentions from Harvard and the University of Oslo.
However, initial reports indicate that this information may be false and that Cote did not have the certification required to practice medicine.
Doubts about the authenticity of her credentials soon raised alarm bells. Social media users shared images in which Cote showed alleged professional ID numbers as a surgeon, psychiatrist and clinical psychologist, which raised suspicions about the veracity of her degrees.
The allegations suggest that Marilyn Cote used the logos of renowned universities to project an image of authority in psychiatry, a field in which she did not have the required qualifications.
In an interview with local media outlet 24 Horas, Marilyn Cote said she has valid titles and is willing to present them, but only to the relevant judicial authorities .
“I have no problem, my documents are completely reliable , and of course, I will only show them to the corresponding authorities,” said Cote, without specifying what certifications he has.
Prosecutor’s investigation
Gilberto Higuera Bernal , Attorney General of the State of Puebla, confirmed that the Prosecutor’s Office will open an investigation into the case of Marilyn Cote , although there is no formal criminal complaint against her so far.
These types of investigations are usually initiated when there are indications of a possible crime that affects public health or confidence in professional institutions.
