A tragic accident in the Italian Alps has left a family devastated after 36-year-old mother Margerita Lega fell to her death from a cable car.
The incident occurred in Calasca Castiglione, while the family was enjoying a holiday. Margerita, who was travelling with her husband and two children aged 5 and 7, was carrying luggage when her clothes got caught in the cable car cable.
The cable car reportedly started unexpectedly, dragging the woman to a height of 150 metres before she fell to her death instantly. Despite desperate efforts to free her, the tragedy was impossible to prevent.
More than 100 rescuers and firefighters were involved in the recovery of the body, an operation made difficult by the difficult accessibility of the terrain. Margerita’s body was recovered with the help of a helicopter and specialised climbers.
The family, who witnessed the horrific accident, is receiving psychological support. The Italian authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident and verify compliance with safety regulations of the cable car, which has been temporarily closed.
