Appearing on the Nothing But the Truth Podcast, Williams Sr. criticized artists for doing little to support his legal battle after being arrested on RICO charges but now wanting a piece of the rapper.
He said: “We got all these rappers and everybody trying to find Young Thug. They wanna talk to Young Thug, they wanna this, that and the other. Where your ass been for 29 months? Why y’all ass ain’t been out there protesting for his constitutional rights being violated? Y’all are the ones considered to be the influencers. Ain’t influencing shit.”
Thug’s dad continued: “Now, you want to talk to him. You want to goddamn put out these monkey-a*s videos. All this, for your personal gain. It’s just for your personal gain. Your personal hype. Trying to make yourself relevant.
“Where have y’all been? Where have y’all Atlanta artists been up until now?”
Williams Sr. also pointed to one particular incident where he asked an ATL artist for help: “I asked him to do an event on behalf of YSL. And I was told, ‘Let me get with my people and see if I can do that.’ But yet and still, I see you right there beside Young Thug. That’s when he needed the help. So, you know, we gotta stop with the fake.”
Some speculated that the person Williams Sr. was talking about was southern rap legend T.I. who posted pictures of himself with Thugger shortly after his release from prison.
Williams Sr. has also made it known that he is not a fan of certain probation conditions that were included as part of Thug’s plea deal.
Asked specifically by local news about Thug being banned from Metro Atlanta, the elder Williams replied: “I’m totally against that, because this is where he’s from. To have a district attorney take that away from him … To see her take the man away from where he’s from, to have to go live somewhere else, that’s offensive to me. I’m really offended by that.”
