In mid-May, a Romanian driver was killed on a motorway in Wallonia (Belgium): a sewer slab was thrown onto his truck from a bridge. Four months after the events, the court hopes that a reconstruction will finally make it possible to identify the real perpetrator.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near Héron, on the E42, towards Namur. An unknown person threw a manhole cover from a bridge. The cover went through the windshield of a truck, killing its driver instantly. His wife, sitting next to him, was able to take the wheel and stop the truck.
Throwing sewer covers: a hobby of a group of local youths.
Four adults and two minors were arrested for their involvement in the incident. One of the four adults is still in police custody. The others are under electronic surveillance. One minor has been placed in custody. But who is the real perpetrator? The mystery remains. Who had the idea and who finally threw the plate? And the six suspects have remained silent until now.
The facts, which were initially considered murder, were reclassified as malicious obstruction of traffic resulting in death. And this gang of youths was not at its first attempt.
Reenactment
The reenactment took place on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. On Tuesday evening, the six young people had to take turns telling what they thought had happened that night and who, according to them, had thrown the stove.
