The head of the National Party believes it was a serious mistake to have allowed Libre to come to power in Honduras.
Tomás Zambrano, head of the National Party, has expressed his disappointment with the government of Liberty and Refoundation (Libre) after the national broadcast that, according to him, has exacerbated impunity and political repression in Honduras.
Zambrano said the government’s announcement on Tuesday’s national radio and television network had confirmed the worst suspicions about his administration and had intensified the political crisis in the country.
“We hoped that Libre would rectify its decision for the good of Honduras and that it would reaffirm its commitment to extradition, but we were all wrong,” Zambrano said.
In his criticism, the leader of the faction pointed out that, instead of addressing fundamental problems and ensuring the continuity of the extradition process, Libre has chosen to provide more impunity to the so-called “Familion,” a reference to the family of former President Manuel Zelaya and President Xiomara Castro.
Zambrano also denounced the launch of what he called “Plan Venezuela,” a reference to the authoritarian and repressive tactics seen in the South American country.
According to the politician, Libre’s national network has not only confirmed the lack of commitment to justice and transparency, but has also marked the beginning of increasing repression against the political opposition.
“The national broadcast shows us that for Libre there are no limits in the mud,” Zambrano continued. “When we thought they had reached the lowest point, now we see that the situation is even worse. Libre is the worst mistake made by Honduras.”
Zambrano concluded with a call for reflection and action to correct what he considers a serious mistake in having allowed Libre to come to power.
“May God enlighten us all to correct the mistake of having allowed them to come to power,” he said.
Government publishes list of drug cases involving politicians in Honduras
In a national broadcast, Secretary of Security Gustavo Sánchez and Secretary of Defense Rixi Moncada revealed more than 30 cases of politicians linked to drug trafficking without mentioning any member of the Libre party.
However, officials omitted members of his party, such as Carlos Zelaya, recently linked to drug traffickers such as Carlos ‘El Negro’ Lobo, Devis and Javier Rivera Maradiaga and Héctor Fernández Rosa, alias ‘Don H’.
