WHAT HAPPENED?
When Spain won the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia, defeating England 1-0 in the final, the focus should have been on the players who were crowned world champions. However, Rubiales, then the president of the Spanish federation, kissed Hermoso in the post-match celebrations and was later banned by FIFA. Hermoso has since testified in court that the kiss was not consensual and, according to the BBC, Rubiales is set to stand trial on charges of sexual assault and coercion.
