WHAT HAPPENED?
According to Tuttosport, the rift between Leao and Fonseca is growing wider, and the Portugal star’s future at Milan is looking increasingly uncertain. After benching the winger in a recent clash with Napoli, the Rossoneri boss told reporters: “We try to motivate the players in different ways, then it’s up to the players to put in the right amount of dedication, I don’t have to beg them. Leao is working to get back into the lineup, for me this is the most positive thing.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE
It appears, then, that there may be a route back into Fonseca’s good books for Leao. However, the report adds that the coach has seen no improvements from the player in recent months. With reports circulating that Barcelona are keeping close tabs on the out-of-favour forward with an eye on a potential move for him next summer, the 25-year-old’s stint in Serie A could be coming to an end.
DID YOU KNOW?
Fonseca has reportedly been disappointed with Leao’s failure to improve the defensive side of his game. The winger’s offensive contributions so far this season have been decent, with three assists and one goal registered in eight games in a struggling side. However, this is still nowhere near the kind of output Milan are used to from Leao over the last few seasons, and his lack of form has caused some to label him a ‘time bomb’ destined for a transfer soon.

WHAT NEXT FOR LEAO?
Leao isn’t the only one facing an uncertain future. According to reports, the Milan head coach’s job may be in danger following a disappointing start to the 2024-25 campaign. His team are currently languishing in eighth place and they’ve failed to convince in the Champions League. Whether Fonseca can outlast his ‘time bomb’ Portuguese star is a big question.
