The Fire Department reported that nearly 100 people were evacuated from neighborhoods in the capital following the rains in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela.
Some seven neighborhoods in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela , in the Central District, capital of Honduras, were affected by the heavy rains that occurred between last night and early Saturday morning.
According to information provided by the Fire Department, between the Las Brisas and Betania colonies , near Fuerzas Armadas Boulevard, almost a hundred people were evacuated from their homes.
The above was due to flooding caused by the overflow of the Choluteca River , which crosses near the colonies in question, of which 50 were recorded in Betania and 40 in Las Brisas.
A similar situation occurred in the Nora de Melgar neighborhood , near Kuwait Boulevard, where the Choluteca River also overflowed, although it was not specified whether there were people evacuated in this area of the capital.
More effects
Likewise, the increase in the flow of the Choluteca River due to the rains also affected the area of the Motagua field , located between the Soberanía and Carías bridges , which connect Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, although, likewise, the damages were not specified.
Meanwhile, the rains also caused damage in the Kennedy neighborhood of Tegucigalpa, where flooding was recorded on the commercial street, according to the Fire Department report .
Risks due to rain
For its part, the Secretariat for National Risk and Contingency Management ( Copeco ) predicted that a trough and the convergence of humidity from the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean will leave rain in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, as well as in the rest of Honduras.
Given the above, the entity called on the population to remain alert and respond to emergency calls that may arise, especially in areas at high risk of landslides, collapses or floods.
