English referee Rebecca Welch has been appointed to take charge of the Women’s Champions League final between Barcelona and Lyon.
The 40-year-old made history earlier this season when becoming the first woman to referee a Premier League game – Burnley’s 2-0 victory over Fulham in December.
Welch has refereed six Women’s Champions League matches this season and was the fourth official at last year’s final.
She has been an international referee since 2015 and went full-time in 2019.
Welch’s assistants for the 25 May final at San Mames in Bilbao will be her English compatriots Natalie Aspinall and Emily Carney, with Stuart Attwell named by Uefa as the lead video assistant referee (VAR).
Slovenia’s Slavko Vincic will take charge of the men’s Champions League final at Wembley between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund on 1 June.
